GENERAL NEWS AND POSTINGS

February 09: Jason Hart from the group CUBE design + research looks at our current preservation ethic, using the battle over Neutra's Gettysburg Cyclorama as the centerpiece of the article. From the article, "There are unexplored degress of preservation between its ever-present all-or-nothing proposition. As preservation has embraced multiple value rationales, it must too embrace multiple outcomes. Preservation has the potential to become the catalyst for shaping richer and healthier environments. The continued relevance of our history, including the Cyclorama Center, depends on it."

February 10: Preservationists in Palm Springs have appealed the City's decision to move forward with landscaping alterations around the Alfred Frey-designed city hall complex.

ENDANGERED RESOURCES

February 8: Efforts of Triangle Modernist Houses have led to the purchase of the 1958 Carr House, which had been up for sale since last fall. Designed by Kenneth Scott, this house has been saved from being a potential teardown as it has been purchased by appreciative new owners who will respect the architecture of the house.

February 10: A deal has been reached to preserve the recently threatened Century Plaza Hotel. The hotel will now be the centerpiece of a large-scale mixed-use develoment center. As progress continues, both the Los Angeles Conservancy and the National Trust for Historic Preservation will review preservation-related matters as part of a Preservation Advisory Group.
